One-of-a-kind
LoribaftHand KnottedWool rug
Dark blue / Brown161 x 232 cm

Loribaft - Crafted for Calm Living

Discover a truly one-of-a-kind Loribaft rug from the Middle East, featuring a rich blue field and expressive handcrafted details.
This one-of-a-kind Loribaft rug brings a genuine sense of warmth and character to your living space. As a completely unique piece, this exact rug exists nowhere else in the world, making it a truly special addition to your home. Every detail reflects a storied craft tradition that transforms a simple floor covering into a meaningful focal point.
Walking across this piece reveals a remarkably dense and plush surface underfoot. With a generous 20 mm pile height, it offers exceptional tactile comfort and natural sound absorption, creating a quiet and cosy atmosphere in bedrooms or living rooms. The 100% wool pile provides a natural warmth that makes stepping onto the rug a true pleasure.
The rich blue background creates a calm visual anchor, complemented by vibrant borders filled with traditional motifs. Because no two handmade rugs are identical, you are acquiring a piece with its own distinct personality and subtle variations that speak to its human origin.
Owning this handcrafted piece means bringing home an authentic item created to last for generations. The natural wool fibres provide reliable durability for everyday indoor use while remaining soft and welcoming for daily life.
Loribaft rugs originate from the tribal weaving traditions of the Middle East, where artisan communities have passed down their craft through generations. These textiles were originally created by nomadic groups for daily domestic use, evolving over time into highly regarded expressions of regional culture and storytelling.
The term Loribaft refers to a finer and more densely knotted evolution of traditional tribal weaving. By utilising carefully twisted wool yarns and tighter knotting techniques, weavers achieve a softer and more lustrous pile while maintaining the robust durability characteristic of nomadic textiles.
The visual language of Loribaft rugs often centres on a spacious solid-coloured field framed by richly decorated borders. In this piece, the expansive blue field is contrasted by warm yellow borders filled with playful animal and floral motifs, reflecting the weaver's deep connection to the natural world.
Collecting a rug from this tradition means preserving centuries of cultural heritage and human skill. Each piece stands as a testament to the artisan's patience and artistic vision, offering modern homes a tangible link to ancient craft practices.
This rug is meticulously crafted using a traditional hand-knotted technique that requires months of dedicated human labour. Artisans individually tie each knot onto the foundation, ensuring a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that machines simply cannot replicate.
With a knot density of 160,000 knots per m2, this 232 x 161 cm rug contains approximately 597,504 individually placed knots. This high knot count creates a tight, resilient pile that securely locks the fibres in place, ensuring the intricate motifs remain sharp and well-defined over years of daily use so you can enjoy a lasting investment.
The substantial weight of 14.9 kg further highlights the density of the materials and the extensive time invested by the weaver. This demanding construction process results in a heavy, durable rug that lies flat and maintains its premium quality through decades of foot traffic.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
