Loribaft Fine - A Vibrant Tapestry of Colour

This truly one-of-a-kind hand-knotted rug brings authentic Middle Eastern artistry to your home. Its rich, variegated stripes and intricate tribal motifs create a warm, inviting atmosphere that reflects centuries of tradition.
This Loribaft Fine rug offers a deeply tactile experience, featuring a dense, plush wool pile that provides exceptional warmth and comfort underfoot. Its substantial construction makes it an ideal choice for adding a cosy, grounded feel to any living space or quiet reading corner.
The visual character of this piece is defined by its bold, horizontal stripes and a series of delicate, hand-woven tribal motifs that appear to dance across the surface. Because each rug is a unique creation, the specific arrangement of these patterns and the subtle shifts in colour ensure that no two pieces are ever identical, making this a truly singular addition to your home.
Rooted in the rich weaving traditions of the Middle East, this rug serves as a vibrant focal point that harmonises well with both modern and classic interiors. Its deep, saturated hues transition smoothly across the field, creating a sense of movement and depth that enhances the overall atmosphere of your room.
Owning this rug means possessing a piece of functional art that will never be replicated. It is designed to be a lasting part of your home, offering a level of character and authenticity that only a genuinely one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted item can provide.
Loribaft rugs originate from the nomadic tribes of the Middle East, specifically the Luri people, who have long been celebrated for their expressive and soulful weaving styles. These rugs were historically created for personal use within tents, intended to provide warmth and comfort while reflecting the stories and cultural identity of the tribe.
The term 'Loribaft' refers to this distinct style of weaving, which is characterised by a thicker, more generous pile and a more relaxed, spontaneous approach to design compared to formal city-made rugs. This technical approach creates a softer, more inviting texture that is highly sought after by those who appreciate the raw, unrefined beauty of tribal craft.
Visually, these rugs are known for their use of bold, saturated colours and symbolic tribal motifs, often including stylised animals, plants, or geometric shapes that carry specific cultural meanings. The stripes seen in this piece are a traditional way to display a variety of natural dyes, often resulting in a harmonious, rhythmic aesthetic that feels both ancient and contemporary.
Collecting a Loribaft rug is an opportunity to connect with a living tradition that spans generations. Each rug is not merely a floor covering but a repository of the weaver's skill and the tribe's heritage, making it a valuable acquisition for anyone who appreciates the enduring appeal of authentic, hand-crafted artistry.
This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that requires immense skill and patience from the artisan. By tying individual knots of wool onto the foundation, the weaver ensures a level of durability and pile density that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match.
The precision of the 160,000 knots per m2 is a testament to the artisan's dedication. With a total of approximately 15,500 knots in this specific rug, the construction process represents weeks of focused effort, resulting in a firm, resilient pile that holds its shape and beauty through years of daily use.
The quality of this piece is further evidenced by its weight of 3.9 kg, which confirms the generous use of high-quality wool. This substantial weight creates a heavy, stable rug that stays firmly in place, reflecting the commitment to craft and the longevity built into every square centimetre of the design.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
