The Lori rug tradition hails from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, where the Lori people have long maintained a rich heritage of nomadic weaving. These rugs are deeply tied to the cultural identity of the region, reflecting the rugged landscape and the traditional lifestyles of the tribes who have passed down these intricate weaving skills through many generations.

The term Lori refers to the specific tribal style that prioritises bold, geometric expression over the more flowing, curvilinear designs found in urban rug centres. These rugs are often characterised by their use of high-quality Wool, which is known for its resilience and ability to hold vibrant natural dyes, ensuring the pieces remain visually striking even after decades of use.

Visually, Lori rugs are celebrated for their strong, rectilinear patterns and iconic motifs, such as stylised medallions, latch-hook shapes, and sometimes whimsical animal figures that carry symbolic meaning within the weaving community. The palette is typically anchored by deep, earthy tones like dark red and black, creating a high-contrast aesthetic that feels both ancient and remarkably modern.

Owning a Lori rug is an investment in a living tradition. These pieces are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the human story woven into every inch of their construction. By bringing a Lori rug into your home, you are preserving a piece of cultural history and celebrating the enduring skill of the artisans who continue this ancient craft.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time to bringing its complex design to life. With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the creation of this piece requires hundreds of hours of focused, expert labour. This intensity of work is what allows for the precision of the geometric lines and the long-term structural integrity of the final rug.

The 13.1 kg weight of this 265 x 170 cm rug is a direct reflection of the generous amount of high-quality material and the density of the hand-knotted construction. This substantial weight ensures the rug lies flat and remains stable on your floor, serving as a testament to the effort invested in its creation.
