Lori rugs are deeply rooted in the nomadic traditions of the Middle Eastern tribes, particularly those residing in the mountainous regions. These rugs have historically been woven for personal use, serving as vital components of nomadic life, from floor coverings to tent decorations and storage bags.

The term 'Lori' refers to the tribal heritage of the weavers, who are known for their ability to create rugs that are both functional and highly expressive. The craft has been passed down through generations, with techniques that emphasise durability and the use of natural materials, creating a bridge between ancient tribal art and contemporary home design.

Signature design elements of these pieces often include bold geometric medallions and repeating motifs inspired by the surrounding landscape. The use of deep, earthy reds and dark tones is traditional for this region, often accented by ivory or lighter shades to create a striking contrast that highlights the weaver's skill.

Owning a Lori rug is like holding a piece of cultural history. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the human story behind every knot. They represent a connection to a long-standing tradition of skill, making them a significant addition to any home that values heritage and craftsmanship.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months to the process. With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the sheer amount of human effort required to complete a piece of this size is significant, reflecting a deep commitment to precision and longevity.

The construction involves an extensive process of tying individual knots to form the pile, which is what gives the rug its exceptional density and firm structure. By balancing the 12.4 kg weight with the size of 256 x 167 cm, the artisan ensures a dense, high-quality foundation that holds its shape and detail over time.

Every knot is placed by hand, a slow and intentional technique that ensures the pattern remains sharp and the pile stays resilient. This labour-intensive approach is the only way to achieve such a robust, high-quality finish, turning a functional object into a lasting piece of craft.
