The Lori rug tradition hails from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, where nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes have long expressed their cultural identity through weaving. These rugs are deeply connected to the landscape and the way of life of the Lori people, reflecting a history of resilience and artistic expression that has been passed down through generations.

The term 'Lori' refers specifically to these tribal origins and the distinct construction methods employed by the weavers. Using a sturdy foundation, these rugs are built to be both beautiful and functional, capable of enduring the rigours of nomadic travel while maintaining their structural integrity and aesthetic charm.

Visually, Lori rugs are celebrated for their bold, geometric language. They often feature repeating motifs that draw inspiration from the surrounding environment, arranged in a way that feels balanced and rhythmic. The use of deep, earthy colours, particularly rich reds and dark accents, gives these pieces a warm and commanding presence.

Collecting a Lori rug is an opportunity to own a piece of living history. These rugs are highly valued for their authenticity and the skill required to produce them without the aid of modern machinery. They represent a connection to a specific heritage and a commitment to preserving traditional craft in the modern home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that demands immense skill and patience from the artisan. With approximately 530,000 individual knots placed by hand, the construction is exceptionally dense, ensuring that the intricate patterns remain sharp and the pile remains full and supportive for many years.

The substantial weight of 8.3 kg across its surface area is a testament to the high volume of material used and the quality of the foundation. This density is the mark of a premium piece, requiring months of dedicated work to achieve the level of precision and durability found in this specific rug.

Every knot is tied with purpose, reflecting a generational craft where the artisan's expertise dictates the final quality. This slow, deliberate approach to production results in a rug that is not only a functional floor covering but a lasting investment in traditional skill.
