Light Nomad KilimHand WovenRug

Orange / Beige96 x 145 cm

The Ghashghai people are nomadic tribes from the Middle Eastern region, known for their vibrant and expressive weaving traditions. These rugs have historically served both functional and artistic roles in the daily lives of the tribes, acting as floor coverings, blankets, and even tent decorations during their seasonal migrations.

Kilim is a term used to describe a specific style of flat-weaving, distinct from pile rugs. Instead of knotting individual strands of Wool onto a foundation, the weaver interweaves the weft threads through the warp threads. This technique creates a reversible, thin, and durable textile that is highly prized for its portability and clean, geometric lines.

The design language of this rug is defined by its bold, angular motifs. The diamond patterns and rhythmic borders are classic Ghashghai signatures, often reflecting the natural landscape and the cultural identity of the weavers. The muted, natural tones of this particular piece offer a contemporary interpretation of these centuries-old visual traditions.

Collectors value Ghashghai Kilims for their raw, unrefined beauty and the personal story embedded in every thread. Owning one is more than just a decorative choice, it is a way to preserve the skill and cultural history of the nomadic groups who have kept this craft alive for generations.

This rug is meticulously hand-woven by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense focus and a steady hand. Because it is a flat-weave Kilim, the construction relies on the interlacing of warp and weft, resulting in a lightweight yet sturdy piece that maintains its shape over time.

With a total weight of 2.8 kg, this rug demonstrates a high density of material relative to its size. This weight is a clear indicator of the quality and patience invested in its creation, as the artisan must carefully manage the tension of the yarns throughout the entire weaving journey.

The time and human effort required to complete such a precise geometric design are significant. By choosing this rug, you are supporting a long-standing tradition of craft that prioritises manual skill over machine speed, resulting in a durable piece that is built to last.
