Light Nomad KilimHand WovenRug

Orange / Beige175 x 249 cm

The Ghashghai Kelim is deeply rooted in the traditions of the nomadic tribes of the Middle East. These rugs were historically woven by women who spent their lives migrating with their herds, using the Wool of their own sheep to create functional, portable, and beautiful textiles for their tents.

A Kelim is defined by its flat-woven construction, which lacks a pile. This technique is achieved by interweaving the coloured weft threads directly with the warp, creating a design that is identical on both sides. This method is highly valued for its strength and the crisp, clean edges it produces in geometric motifs.

The visual language of the Ghashghai is dominated by a strong sense of symmetry and geometric abstraction. Common motifs often include diamonds, stylized flowers, and latch-hook patterns that carry symbolic meaning within the tribe. This particular piece captures that heritage through its rhythmic, repeating patterns that flow across the field.

Owning a Ghashghai Kelim is an invitation to connect with a centuries-old craft that prizes community, patience, and visual storytelling. These rugs are highly sought after by collectors for their authenticity and the way they bridge the gap between ancient nomadic utility and modern interior aesthetics.

This Kelim is created through a traditional hand-woven process that relies entirely on human skill rather than mechanical intervention. The artisans work with a focus on structural integrity, ensuring that the tension across the rug is consistent, which results in a flat, stable, and long-lasting finish.

With a weight of 8.7 kg across its 249 x 175 cm dimensions, this rug demonstrates a high density of material that speaks to the effort invested in its creation. Every pass of the shuttle is placed by hand, a time-intensive method that creates the clean, sharp lines of its geometric pattern and ensures the durability of the weave.

The choice of high-quality Wool for the weave ensures that the rug maintains its shape and appearance despite daily use. This level of dedication to craft means that the finished piece is not only visually striking but structurally sound, providing a premium experience that mass-produced alternatives cannot replicate.
