Red / Dark redRunner126 x 292 cm

The Kurdi rugs originate from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, a territory known for its rugged terrain and deep-rooted nomadic traditions. These rugs are crafted by Kurdish weavers who have passed down their design language through generations, creating a unique aesthetic that balances tribal boldness with intricate, symbolic detail.

The construction of these rugs is deeply connected to the materials found in the local environment, with wool being the primary fibre used for the pile due to its availability and superior durability. The traditional weaving techniques focus on creating a robust foundation, ensuring that the rug is capable of withstanding the harsh conditions of nomadic life while retaining its beauty.

Visually, these pieces are recognised for their geometric rigour and the use of strong, primary-focused colour palettes. The motifs often include stylised floral or tribal elements that hold cultural significance, serving as a visual narrative of the weaver's heritage. The borders are typically well-defined, framing the central field to create a cohesive and harmonious composition.

Collecting a Kurdi rug is an investment in cultural history and artisanal skill. These pieces are highly valued for their authenticity and the personal touch of the weaver, which is embedded in every knot. Owning such a rug provides a tangible link to a rich, enduring tradition of craftsmanship that remains vibrant and relevant in the modern home.

This runner is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill from the artisan. By carefully looping each knot by hand, the maker ensures a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that machines cannot emulate. This labour-intensive method is what gives the runner its long-lasting durability and distinctive character.

The construction reflects a significant investment of time and human effort, evident in the substantial weight of 15.8 kg for this 292 x 126 cm piece. This weight is a testament to the high volume of wool used in the pile, resulting in a dense, resilient construction that is built to endure for generations.

Every inch of this runner is the result of focused, repetitive work that prioritises quality over speed. By choosing a hand-knotted piece, you are supporting a time-honoured craft tradition where the precision of the work directly translates into the rug's longevity and its ability to remain a centerpiece of your home for many years.
