KunduzHand KnottedRug

Brown / Black99 x 148 cm

Kunduz rugs originate from the northern region of Afghanistan, a territory with a long and distinguished history of textile weaving. The region is celebrated for producing rugs with deep, rich colour palettes and highly structured patterns that reflect the heritage of local weaving communities.

Traditionally woven with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, these rugs are built to be durable and stable. The use of wool ensures a lustrous finish and natural resilience, while the cotton warp keeps the rug straight and flat on the floor.

The visual language of Kunduz rugs is defined by intricate geometric borders and repeating floral-inspired motifs. These patterns have been passed down through generations of weavers, with each artisan adding subtle variations that make every piece unique.

Owning an authentic Afghan Kunduz rug is an appreciation of genuine craftsmanship and regional heritage. These pieces are valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their ability to bring a sense of history, warmth, and artistic depth into contemporary living spaces.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a traditional technique that requires patience, precision, and years of practice. Every single detail in the pattern is formed by tying individual knots by hand, creating a robust and resilient structure.

With a weight of 4.4 kg and dimensions of 148 x 99 cm, this piece has a dense and substantial feel. The weight reflects the generous amount of wool used in the pile, ensuring the rug lies flat and retains its shape over years of use.
