KunduzHand KnottedRug

Brown / Orange98 x 147 cm

Kunduz rugs take their name from the historic city in northern Middle East, a region with a deep-rooted tradition in textile arts. Historically, these rugs were influenced by the nomadic tribes that traversed the rugged terrain of the region, blending diverse cultural aesthetics into a recognisable regional style.

The production of these rugs relies on time-honoured techniques where the Wool is carefully hand-knotted onto a foundation. This method is vital for the rug's longevity, as each knot is secured to create a dense, resilient pile that resists wear while maintaining its soft, natural lustre over many years of use.

Signature design elements of the Kunduz tradition often include bold, geometric medallions and stylised floral motifs that repeat across the field. These designs are frequently enclosed by complex, multi-layered borders that demonstrate the weaver's keen eye for balance and symmetry, often utilising a warm, earthy colour palette derived from local natural dyes.

Owning a Kunduz rug is an investment in cultural heritage. These pieces are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the human story behind every knot. They represent a bridge between ancient techniques and the modern home, serving as a reminder of the craftsmanship that persists despite the passing of time.

This Kunduz rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans. With a total of approximately 23,000 individual knots, the process requires weeks of focused, precise labour to ensure the pattern is perfectly realised and the construction is robust.

The 4.3 kg weight across its 1.44 m2 size speaks to the density of the Wool and the strength of the foundation. This high material volume is a direct result of the effort invested in every square inch, ensuring a quality that is built to endure for generations.
