Black / Brown197 x 294 cm

Kunduz rugs originate from the northern regions of Afghanistan, a land with a deep-rooted history of textile production along the historic trade routes of Central Asia. These rugs are renowned for their ability to blend traditional nomadic design elements with more sophisticated, settled weaving techniques that have been passed down through generations.

The construction of these rugs typically involves a sturdy foundation, which allows the dense wool pile to stand up to decades of use. This construction is a hallmark of the region's craft, ensuring that the finished product is not only beautiful but also inherently long-lasting and resilient against wear.

A signature element of the Kunduz style is the frequent use of large, intricate central medallions that draw the eye toward the heart of the rug. These are often accompanied by 'boteh' motifs—a teardrop-shaped symbol representing life and eternity—and framed by elaborate, multi-layered borders that reflect the artistic heritage of Afghan weavers.

Collectors value these rugs for their authenticity and the human story woven into every piece. Owning a Kunduz rug is a way to appreciate the heritage of Afghan craftsmanship, as these textiles are regarded as cultural treasures that connect modern homes to the ancient and vibrant traditions of the Middle East.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Each individual knot is tied by hand, resulting in a robust structure that ensures the rug will retain its beauty and form for many years, even in high-traffic areas of your home.

The density and weight of 17.4 kg are indicators of the significant amount of wool used and the time-intensive effort poured into its creation. It takes months of dedicated, daily work to complete a piece of this size and complexity, with every single knot contributing to the overall durability and density of the final product.

The craftsmanship behind this rug is evident in the sharpness of its patterns and the resilience of its pile. By choosing a hand-knotted piece, you are supporting a tradition of excellence and securing a durable, high-quality item that is built to endure the demands of daily life while maintaining its aesthetic appeal.
