KunduzHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red155 x 194 cm

Kunduz rugs originate from the northern region of Afghanistan, a territory renowned for its rich history of textile weaving. This area has long been a melting pot of different nomadic and settled cultures, each contributing to the distinct visual identity of the rugs produced here.

The design language of Kunduz rugs is characterised by its deep, rich colour palette, dominated by dark-red tones and black accents. These colours are traditionally derived from natural sources, creating a warm, grounded appearance that has made these rugs highly sought after by collectors worldwide.

At the heart of the Kunduz tradition are repeating geometric patterns and intricate borders. The central field often features stylized motifs arranged in a balanced, symmetrical layout, enclosed by multiple decorative borders that frame the composition and add depth to the overall design.

Owning a Kunduz rug means bringing a piece of living history into your home. These rugs are celebrated not only for their durability and warmth but also for the cultural heritage they represent, making them cherished heirlooms that carry stories of craftsmanship across generations.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a traditional technique that requires immense patience and skill. Every single knot is tied individually by hand, creating a strong, durable structure that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match.

Weighing 9 kg and measuring 194 x 155 cm, the substantial weight of this piece reflects the high density of the weave and the quality of the wool used. This solid construction ensures the rug lies flat on the floor and maintains its shape over years of daily use.

The creation of a hand-knotted rug of this size represents months of dedicated labor by skilled artisans. This human effort is visible in the slight, charming variations of the pattern, which give the rug its authentic character and justify its value as a premium, handcrafted item.
