KunduzHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red105 x 158 cm

Kunduz rugs originate from northern Afghanistan, a region with a long and respected history of textile production. The weaving traditions of this area have been shaped by various nomadic and settled groups, resulting in a rich fusion of styles and techniques.

The hand-knotting technique used in these rugs is central to their quality. By tying each knot by hand, weavers create a dense and durable pile that holds its shape and pattern clarity over decades of use, making these rugs highly valued for their longevity.

The visual language of this rug is defined by a deep red field decorated with dark blue and black geometric and tribal motifs. A detailed decorative border frames the central composition, while the ends are finished with traditional flatwoven bands and short fringes.

Owning a Kunduz rug means bringing a piece of genuine cultural heritage into your home. These rugs are appreciated by collectors for their authentic designs, rich natural tones, and the individual skill of the weavers who keep this craft alive.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a traditional method where artisans tie individual knots onto a foundation to build the pattern and pile. This manual process requires exceptional skill and patience, resulting in a durable structure that machine-made alternatives cannot match.

Weighing 5 kg for its 158 x 105 cm size, the rug has a substantial and dense construction. This weight indicates the volume of wool used and the density of the weave, ensuring the rug lies flat and secure on your floor.

The creation of this piece represents weeks of dedicated work by a skilled artisan. Every detail in the pattern is the result of careful hand-placement, making the rug a valuable example of human craft and dedication.
