The rug is crafted from 100% Wool, providing a tactile, natural surface that feels wonderful underfoot. Its construction creates a smooth, flat-woven finish that is both durable and easy to maintain, making it an ideal choice for high-traffic areas where you want to add both style and a welcoming atmosphere.

This piece showcases a sophisticated design language rooted in Middle Eastern traditions. The intricate patterns and balanced composition draw the eye, while the wool fibres offer natural sound-dampening qualities that help create a quieter, more serene environment in your home.

Owning this rug means connecting with a legacy of artistry. Because each piece is unique, the slight variations in its weave and colour palette are a testament to the human hand behind its creation. It is more than just a floor covering; it is a lasting addition that will age beautifully over time.

Kilim rugs are a cornerstone of Middle Eastern textile history, emerging from centuries of nomadic tradition where woven floor coverings were essential for insulation and decoration. These flat-woven pieces were historically designed to be portable and durable, reflecting the lifestyles of the tribes who created them across the Middle East.

The term kilim refers to the specific slit-weave technique where the weft threads are pulled tightly to conceal the warp. This method results in a thin, lightweight, yet remarkably strong fabric. Because there is no pile, the intricate geometric patterns are rendered with exceptional clarity and sharpness, allowing the design to remain the primary focus of the piece.

The visual language of these rugs is defined by symbolic motifs and bold, angular geometry. You will often find diamonds, triangles, and stylised floral elements arranged in balanced compositions. The deep red tones and contrasting dark blue accents found in this piece are classic signatures of the region's dye traditions, using natural pigments to achieve rich, earthy hues.

Collectors value these vintage kilims for their cultural authenticity and the narrative preserved within their weave. Each rug serves as a historical document, capturing the aesthetic preferences and technical mastery of a specific time and place. Owning one is an invitation to bring a piece of living history into your home, celebrating the skill that has been passed down through generations.

This kilim is meticulously hand-woven, a process that requires immense focus and patience from the weaver. Unlike machine-made alternatives, this hand-woven construction allows for a distinct, tight weave that provides the rug with its characteristic strength and longevity.

With a total weight of 13.6 kg spread across its 266 x 170 cm frame, this rug demonstrates a significant density of material. This substantial build is a direct result of the hours of manual labour invested in every inch of the fabric, ensuring a high-quality, resilient product that stands up to daily use.

The precision required to maintain the consistent tension and intricate geometric patterning throughout the entire length of the rug speaks to the high level of skill involved. By choosing a hand-woven piece, you are supporting a traditional craft that prizes quality, intention, and endurance over mass production.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
