Kelim Nimbaft - A Charming Touch of Afghan Craft

Discover this truly one-of-a-kind Afghan Kelim Nimbaft rug, hand-woven with 100% wool to bring warmth and unique character to your home.
Transform your living space with this charming Afghan Kelim Nimbaft rug, a genuinely one-of-a-kind piece that brings authentic warmth and character into any room. Measuring 171 x 128 cm, this flat-woven rug features a low 5 mm profile that fits easily beneath furniture and doors while remaining wonderfully soft and tactile underfoot.
Crafted entirely from 100% wool, this rug offers natural resilience and a cosy, inviting feel that makes everyday living more comfortable. Wool naturally repels dust and everyday wear, making it a practical and enduring choice for active indoor spaces.
Because no two handmade rugs are ever truly identical, owning this specific piece means welcoming a unique work of art into your home that will never be replicated. The distinctive diamond motifs create a lively yet balanced focal point that suits a wide range of interior settings.
Experience the subtle sound-softening qualities and natural warmth that only authentic wool floor coverings can provide, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere in your living room, bedroom, or study.
Kelim rugs originate from a rich nomadic and village weaving tradition spanning across the Middle East and Central Asia. Historically created by tribal groups for practical use as floor coverings, blankets, and storage sacks, these flat-woven textiles carry centuries of cultural heritage within their geometric designs.
The term Nimbaft refers to a specific regional style of weaving characterised by its distinct structural approach and fine hand-woven execution. Unlike pile rugs, Kelims are constructed by tightly interlacing warp and weft threads together, resulting in a lightweight, reversible textile that celebrates pure colour and graphic form.
Traditional designs in this region frequently incorporate repeating geometric symbols, such as diamonds and stylised floral elements, which often held protective or symbolic meanings for the weaving communities. The vibrant teal background paired with multicoloured motifs gives this traditional craft a fresh, contemporary appeal.
Collecting these handmade textiles allows you to preserve ancient craft traditions in your home. Each piece serves as a physical connection to the heritage and daily lives of the artisans who designed and wove it by hand.
This rug is entirely handmade using traditional hand-woven flat-weaving techniques that have been passed down through generations in Afghanistan. Skilled artisans carefully interlace the warp and weft yarns on a vertical loom, building the patterned surface entirely by hand without the aid of automated machinery.
With a total weight of 2.2 kg distributed across its 171 x 128 cm frame, this rug demonstrates a dense and tightly beaten construction that ensures lasting structural integrity. The flat-woven structure requires immense precision and rhythmic consistency from the weaver to maintain straight edges and sharp geometric motifs.
The creation of this piece represents many days of dedicated human labour and generational expertise, ensuring a level of authenticity and durability that mass-produced alternatives simply cannot replicate.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
