Kilim ModernHand WovenRug

Brown / Orange297 x 400 cm

Kelim flatweaves have a long and storied heritage rooted in the nomadic and village traditions of the Middle East and Central Asia. Originally created by tribal weavers for practical domestic use such as floor coverings, blankets, and horse covers, these textiles formed an essential part of daily life.

The flatweave construction means there is no knotted pile. Instead, the coloured weft threads are tightly interlaced by hand through the vertical warp threads, producing a lightweight yet remarkably strong fabric with the same pattern visible on both sides.

Traditional Kelim designs often feature geometric motifs, diamonds, and symbols drawn from nomadic life and local folklore. In this modern interpretation, those ancient visual elements are thoughtfully arranged to bridge historical craft with contemporary interior styles.

Collecting a vintage or modern Kelim means welcoming a piece of living history into your home. Each rug reflects the personal expression and storytelling of the artisan who wove it, preserving ancient skills for future generations.

This rug is entirely handmade through traditional hand-weaving techniques, requiring weeks of dedicated human effort by skilled artisans. Every row and motif is carefully positioned by hand to create the intricate flatwoven design.

Weighing 11.9 kg across its generous 400 x 297 cm dimensions, the dense construction reflects a high volume of natural wool material and hours of patient craftsmanship.

This labour-intensive hand-woven construction results in a sturdy, durable fabric without a traditional pile, offering exceptional longevity and a stable surface that lies flat on your floor.
