Kilim ModernHand WovenRug

Orange / Beige178 x 235 cm

Kelim weaving has centuries of roots across Central Asia and the Middle East, where nomadic and village communities created flatwoven textiles for daily utility and shelter. Over generations, these utilitarian textiles evolved into cherished interior pieces, carrying forward motifs and weaving methods passed down through families.

The flatwoven construction technique means the rug is made without a knotted pile. Instead, the warp and weft threads are tightly interlaced by hand, resulting in a durable, reversible surface that has long been favoured for its practicality and clean profile.

Known traditionally for geometric clarity, modern interpretations of the kelim tradition often embrace softer palettes and linear rhythms. The delicate striped pattern seen here reflects this evolution, blending traditional techniques with contemporary aesthetic sensibilities.

Owning a hand-woven kelim connects your home to a rich lineage of textile artistry. Each piece stands as a testament to the weaver's skill, offering lasting quality and a genuine sense of cultural heritage that mass-produced floor coverings simply cannot match.

Crafted entirely by hand using traditional hand-weaving techniques, this flatwoven rug represents hours of dedicated human effort. Artisans carefully interlace the strands by hand on a vertical loom, building the structure row by row with careful attention to tension and alignment.

Weighing 8.4 kg across a generous 235 x 178 cm area, the substantial weight reflects a dense and tightly beaten weave. This high density of material ensures the rug lies flat and stable on your floor, while providing the durability needed to withstand years of everyday use.
