Kilim ModernHand WovenRug

Brown / Orange170 x 243 cm

The rich tradition of flat-woven kelims traces its roots across Central Asia and the Middle East, where nomadic and village communities created versatile textiles for daily utility and decorative warmth. Over generations, these weaving practices evolved, blending indigenous tribal symbolism with contemporary design sensibilities while retaining their authentic heritage.

The term kelim refers to a flat-woven textile produced without a raised pile, achieved by tightly interlocking the horizontal weft threads across the vertical warp. This technique creates a lightweight yet durable fabric that lies flat on the floor, traditionally used for everything from floor coverings to horse blankets and wall hangings.

Signature design elements in this tradition often include bold geometric motifs such as diamonds, zig-zags, and stylized tribal symbols, framed by striking decorative borders. The visual language relies on high-contrast tones and repeating geometric rhythms that draw the eye and create a strong focal point in a room.

Owning a hand-woven kelim connects your living space to a long lineage of textile artistry. These pieces are valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their authenticity, cultural resonance, and the immense human skill required to produce each individual design without modern mechanical aids.

This rug is entirely handmade through traditional flat-weaving techniques, requiring skilled artisans to interlock colored warp and weft threads by hand without the use of machinery.

Weighing 8.3 kg across a 243 x 170 cm surface, the dense construction reflects a significant investment of human labor and material quality, ensuring a sturdy and long-lasting flatweave.

The creation of such a detailed geometric flatweave demands weeks of focused handwork, where every single motif is placed with precision by experienced weavers keeping traditional craft alive.
