Design

The rug features a multicolor palette composed of red, yellow, green, blue, pink, brown, and grey tones distributed across a geometric layout. The surface is covered in repeating diamond and zig-zag motifs arranged in horizontal bands.

Kilim flatweaving is an ancient craft tradition native to the nomadic peoples of Central Asia and Afghanistan. The Ariana style represents a modern evolution of these techniques, adapting traditional geometric layouts for contemporary homes.

The term flatweave refers to a rug woven without a pile, where the warp and weft threads are tightly interlaced to form the pattern. This produces a lightweight, highly durable, and reversible textile that has been used for centuries to protect and decorate homes.

The visual language of this rug is defined by repeating diamond and zig-zag motifs arranged in horizontal bands. Traditionally, these geometric patterns carry symbolic meanings of protection and family, rendered in a rich, multicolor palette that brings life to any room.

Owning an Afghan Kilim is about welcoming a piece of living history. Each rug is a personal expression of the weaver's skill and cultural heritage, making it a highly valued addition for collectors and design enthusiasts alike.

This rug is hand-woven by skilled artisans in Afghanistan, using traditional flatweaving techniques passed down through generations. Every thread is interlaced by hand, creating a strong and flexible textile with a human touch that machine production can never replicate.

With a weight of 1.5 kg for its 146 x 103 cm size, the flatweave is tightly tensioned to ensure a flat and stable surface. The artisan spends weeks carefully aligning the geometric patterns, ensuring a balanced structure that lies beautifully on the floor.

The hand-woven construction ensures that the wool fibers are densely packed, which enhances the durability of the flatweave. This level of craftsmanship ensures the rug maintains its shape and vibrant pattern over time.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
