Kelim Afghan Old Style - A Warm Touch for Your Home

This runner is a truly one-of-a-kind piece, hand-woven in Afghanistan with a vibrant, traditional design that brings character and warmth to any hallway or narrow space in your home.
This charming runner brings a sense of history and vibrant colour to your living space. Hand-woven in Afghanistan, it features a traditional design that feels both grounded and lively, making it an ideal choice for adding a cosy, tactile layer to your floors.
Crafted from Wool, this runner provides a comfortable, soft surface underfoot. Its low pile makes it a practical choice for high-traffic areas like hallways, as it sits close to the floor while still offering the natural warmth and sound-absorbing qualities that only Wool can provide.
Because each of these runners is one-of-a-kind, you are bringing home a piece that is truly unique. The specific combination of patterns and colours means no two rugs are exactly alike, ensuring that your home reflects a style that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
Measuring 196 x 81 cm, this piece is designed to fit perfectly in narrow corridors or as an accent in a room. Its authentic, traditional aesthetic serves as a beautiful centrepiece, adding personality and a sense of craft that elevates your interior design effortlessly.
Kelim rugs have long been a cornerstone of nomadic life across the Middle East and Central Asia. These flat-woven textiles were historically created by tribal groups for their practical utility, serving as everything from floor coverings to saddlebags and wall hangings, reflecting a tradition that prioritises both beauty and function.
The term Kelim refers to the specific flat-weaving technique used, where the warp and weft threads are woven tightly together to create a smooth, pileless surface. This method results in a lightweight yet exceptionally durable rug that is easy to move and maintain, characteristics that were essential for the migratory lifestyles of the artisans who developed the craft.
Visually, these runners are defined by their sharp, geometric motifs and bold use of colour. The diamond patterns seen here are classic elements of the tradition, often representing protective symbols or elements of the natural world. These designs are handed down through generations, allowing weavers to express their regional identity through complex, repeating sequences.
Owning a Kelim is more than just purchasing a floor covering, it is an investment in a storied craft tradition. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the human skill embedded in every thread, offering a tangible connection to the cultural heritage of the regions where they are still produced today.
This runner is entirely hand-woven, a process that requires patience and a deep understanding of traditional techniques. By interlacing Wool threads on a loom without a pile, the artisans create a durable, flat-woven structure that is both strong and lightweight.
With a weight of 1.6 kg, this piece demonstrates a dense and careful construction. The physical effort required to weave a rug of this size means that every inch of the fabric has been handled with intent, ensuring a level of durability and character that mass-produced alternatives simply cannot match.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
