Kelim Afghan Old Style - A Vibrant Addition to Your Home

This one-of-a-kind Afghan runner brings warmth and heritage to your floor, featuring a striking geometric design woven with traditional skill.

This one-of-a-kind runner is a testament to the enduring beauty of traditional floor coverings from Afghanistan. Its low-profile pile offers a sleek, tactile experience underfoot, making it a perfect choice for hallways, entryways, or narrow spaces where you want to add a layer of warmth and character without overwhelming the room.

Crafted from Wool, this runner feels soft yet durable, providing a grounded, comfortable surface that helps absorb sound and adds a cosy atmosphere to your living area. The Wool material is naturally resilient and easy to maintain, ensuring that this piece remains a welcoming part of your home for many years to come.

The runner showcases a classic geometric diamond pattern, brought to life with a rich, multi-coloured palette that feels both earthy and vibrant. Because each piece is unique, the slight variations in the weave and pattern serve as a reminder of the human touch behind its creation, ensuring that no two rugs are ever quite the same.

Owning this runner means bringing a distinct piece of history into your home. It serves as a focal point that ties your interior design together, offering a unique blend of colour and form that cannot be replicated. This is not just a rug, but a carefully curated piece of art that reflects a commitment to quality and individual style.

Kelim rugs have long been a cornerstone of traditional weaving across the Middle East and Central Asia. The term refers to a flat-woven textile, meaning the rug is crafted without a pile, resulting in a lightweight yet exceptionally durable surface that has been used by nomadic tribes for centuries to insulate their tents and homes.

Afghan weaving traditions are particularly renowned for their use of bold, geometric motifs and vibrant, natural dyes. These rugs often feature repeating patterns that carry deep cultural significance, with each design element telling a story of the region's history, the artisan's environment, and the tribal identity of the weaver.

The signature geometric diamond patterns seen in this runner are hallmark features of the Afghan style. These motifs are typically arranged in a symmetrical, organised fashion, creating a visual rhythm that is both balanced and dynamic. The use of multiple colours highlights the complexity of the design and the skill required to transition between different hues seamlessly.

Collecting a Kelim rug is an investment in cultural heritage and human skill. Because these pieces are made by hand without the aid of modern machinery, they embody a connection to the past that is increasingly rare today. Owning one allows you to appreciate the nuance and individuality that only a truly handmade item can offer.

This runner is meticulously hand-woven by skilled artisans, a process that emphasises precision and dedication. Unlike machine-made alternatives, the hand-woven technique allows for a tighter, more robust foundation that ensures the rug retains its shape and structural integrity even in high-traffic areas of your home.

With a weight of 2.4 kg, this runner demonstrates the density and volume of materials used in its construction. This significant weight is a clear indicator of the labour-intensive effort invested in every square centimetre of the rug, reflecting a level of craftsmanship that prioritises longevity and quality over speed.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
