Kelim flatwoven rugs have a long history rooted in the nomadic and village traditions of Central Asia and the Middle East.

Originally crafted by tribal weavers for practical household use as floor coverings blankets or grain bags these textiles have evolved into treasured works of folk art that preserve centuries-old weaving techniques.

The flatwoven construction means there is no raised pile achieved by tightly interlocking the horizontal weft threads with the vertical warp threads to create a reversible and durable fabric.

This traditional technique results in a lighter more flexible textile that is prized for its crisp geometric pattern definition.

Kelim Afghan designs are famous for their bold geometric motifs diamond medallions and symbolic tribal patterns passed down through generations of weavers.

The vibrant use of colour and balanced composition reflect both the cultural heritage and the natural dyes traditionally gathered from local plants and minerals in the region.

Collecting vintage-style Kelims connects your home to a rich lineage of textile artistry.

Each piece represents months of focused hand labour and cultural storytelling making it a meaningful acquisition for anyone who values authentic craft and heritage.

This rug is meticulously hand-woven by skilled artisans using traditional flatweaving techniques that require immense patience and precision.

Without the use of machines every row of natural wool is carefully beaten into place by hand creating a strong and durable structure that will stand the test of time.

Weighing 1.5 kg across its 151 x 100 cm dimensions the dense construction reflects the considerable human effort and time invested in its creation.

This careful hand-weaving process ensures sharp geometric pattern clarity and a tight enduring fabric structure.
