This one-of-a-kind Afghan Kelim is a stunning example of traditional artistry that brings both warmth and character to your home. With its low pile, it offers a sleek and practical surface that is easy to maintain while remaining soft and welcoming underfoot.

The rug features a vibrant, geometric design that draws the eye and anchors your interior. Because each piece is genuinely unique, the specific placement of motifs and the subtle variations in colour ensure that you are owning a work of art that exists nowhere else in the world.

Designed for everyday living, the flat-woven construction provides a durable and versatile floor covering that works beautifully in various areas of the home. Its ability to absorb sound and add a layer of natural comfort makes it an ideal choice for creating a cosy atmosphere.

Originating from Afghanistan, this rug carries the heritage of a long-standing craft tradition. By choosing this piece, you are not just adding a decorative element to your room, but also a storied object that reflects the skill and cultural expression of its makers.

Kelim rugs have a history that stretches back centuries across the Middle East, Central Asia, and beyond. These flat-woven textiles were originally created by nomadic tribes as functional items, serving as floor coverings, blankets, and storage bags during their migrations across vast, rugged landscapes.

The term 'Kelim' refers specifically to the weaving technique where the weft threads are passed through the warp to create a smooth, pileless surface. This method allows for sharp, crisp geometric designs, as the patterns are formed by the interplay of the coloured threads themselves rather than being added later.

Signature design elements of Afghan Kelims often include bold, repeating geometric motifs like diamonds, triangles, and stylised floral shapes. These patterns are deeply rooted in local traditions, often serving as a visual language that communicates the weaver's heritage, environment, and personal history.

Owning an Afghan Kelim is an opportunity to connect with a rich cultural legacy. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the human story behind every thread. They represent a bridge between ancient nomadic traditions and the contemporary home, offering a level of character that only a hand-woven piece can provide.

This rug is created through a meticulous hand-woven technique that requires immense patience and skill. Unlike mass-produced alternatives, each thread is carefully interlocked by hand, resulting in a flat, durable surface that showcases the dedication of the artisan.

With a weight of 1.5 kg for its 151 x 100 cm size, this Kelim demonstrates a dense and sturdy construction. This substantial material usage is a direct result of the hours of manual labour invested in the weaving process, ensuring that the final product is both resilient and long-lasting.

The precision required to maintain the consistent tension and intricate geometric patterns across the entire surface highlights the technical expertise involved in its creation. Every pass of the shuttle is a testament to the time-honoured methods used to ensure the quality and structural integrity of this piece.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
