Brown / Orange295 x 418 cm

The Keshan rug tradition originates from the historic city of Kashan in the Middle East, a region with a deep-rooted history of textile artistry. Historically, these rugs were produced to meet the demands of royalty and wealthy patrons, which pushed weavers to refine their techniques and use the finest materials available to achieve unparalleled detail and durability.

The term Keshan refers to this specific lineage of craftsmanship, known for its focus on intricate floral designs and high knot counts. This category of rug is celebrated for its ability to combine complex, swirling patterns with a balanced composition, a hallmark of the sophisticated design language that has been passed down through generations of weavers.

Signature elements of a Keshan rug include elaborate floral scrolls, often centred around a detailed central medallion or a dense, all-over pattern of vines and blossoms. The borders are typically as meticulously detailed as the field, featuring repeating floral motifs that frame the composition and provide a sense of structure and elegance to the overall design.

Collectors value these rugs for their cultural significance and the immense skill required to produce them. Owning a piece from this tradition is a way to connect with a long heritage of artistic excellence, making it a prized addition to any home that values lasting quality and authentic, historical craft.

This rug is a testament to the skill involved in traditional hand-knotting, a process that requires immense patience and precision. With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the artisan has dedicated months of focused work to ensure that every single knot contributes to the overall strength and pattern definition of the piece.

Weighing 45.6 kg, the substantial nature of this rug is a direct result of its dense construction and the quality of materials used. This weight is a clear indicator of the density and labour invested, ensuring a product that is not only visually striking but also sturdy and long-lasting.

The precision of the knotting allows for the fine, flowing details of the floral pattern to remain sharp and clear. By meticulously placing each knot, the weaver creates a surface that is both durable and uniform, demonstrating the high level of craft that defines this exceptional floor covering.
