KeshanHand KnottedRug

Brown / Orange295 x 384 cm

Keshan rugs originate from the historic city of Kashan, located in the central part of the Middle East. Known for its rich history of textile production, this region has long been considered a centre for high-quality weaving, with traditions dating back to the Safavid dynasty. These rugs are celebrated for their sophisticated designs and the refinement of their patterns.

The technical quality of a Keshan is defined by its construction, which often features a high knot density. This precision allows for the complex, flowing floral patterns that are synonymous with the style. By using a dense foundation, weavers ensure that the intricate designs remain clear and sharp, preventing the pile from losing its definition over time.

Signature design elements of these rugs include elaborate floral fields, often featuring central medallions and swirling vines that reflect the classic artistry of the region. The borders are typically formal and ornate, framing the central motifs with a sense of order and balance that makes the rug a focal point in any room.

Collectors value these rugs for their enduring beauty and the skill required to produce them. Owning a piece from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage, representing a level of craft that has been passed down through generations. They are cherished not just as decorative items, but as pieces of art that carry the history of their origin.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision from skilled artisans. By looping each strand of wool individually onto the cotton foundation, the weaver ensures a structure that is both robust and flexible, creating a piece built to last for generations.

The sheer density of this rug is a result of thousands of hours of dedicated labour. With 160,000 knots per m2, the level of detail in the floral patterns is exceptionally sharp, and the weight of 41.9 kg speaks to the high volume of premium material used in its creation.

The time and human effort invested in this rug are reflected in every inch. Because each knot is placed by hand, the resulting pile is dense and resilient, offering a superior level of quality that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match.
