Brown / Dark yellow290 x 400 cm

Keshan rugs originate from the historic city of Kashan in the Middle East, a place renowned for its long-standing contribution to the world of fine textiles. Historically, this city was a vital stop on the Silk Road, which allowed local artisans to draw inspiration from diverse cultures and trade routes, eventually refining their own distinct style of weaving.

The term Keshan refers to a specific tradition of design and construction that emphasises balance and elegance. These rugs are famously known for their curvilinear patterns and the use of high-quality materials. The construction process involves a refined technique that creates a dense and reliable foundation, ensuring that the rug remains a prized possession for decades.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their sophisticated floral layouts. The classic design typically features a central medallion surrounded by dense, flowing arabesques, palmettes, and vines. While traditionally based on floral themes, the depth of colour and the layering of motifs create a sense of harmony and grace that makes the Keshan style instantly recognisable to collectors.

Owning a piece from this tradition is a testament to the appreciation of human skill and cultural heritage. These rugs are highly valued because they represent a marriage of aesthetic beauty and functional longevity. By bringing a Keshan rug into your home, you are preserving a craft tradition that has been perfected over centuries.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Given its size of 400 x 290 cm, the creation of this piece represents hundreds of hours of dedicated labour, ensuring a level of detail and structural integrity that a machine cannot achieve.

With a total weight of 42.9 kg, this rug demonstrates a high density of material, which is a key indicator of its robust construction. The weight and the density of the knots contribute to a firm, resilient base that will maintain its shape and beauty for many years to come.

The expertise required to execute such a complex, flowing design by hand is significant. Every individual knot is placed with intent, resulting in a rug that is not only visually stunning but also durable enough to serve as a centrepiece in your home for generations.
