KeshanHand KnottedRug

Brown / Orange242 x 360 cm

The Keshan rug tradition originates from the historic city of Kashan, a desert oasis in the Middle East that has served as a centre for textile excellence for centuries. Historically, these rugs were highly sought after by royalty and nobility, known for their ability to blend technical precision with artistic grace.

The term Keshan refers to both the origin and a specific style of weaving that prioritises durability and detail. The use of a dense knotting technique ensures that the rug is not only visually striking but also physically substantial, maintaining its form and beauty over many decades of use.

Signature design elements of the Keshan style often include a prominent central medallion, framed by elaborate spandrels and a border filled with complex floral arabesques. These motifs are deeply rooted in the region's artistic history, often drawing inspiration from the lush, imagined gardens of classical poetry.

Collectors value these rugs for their enduring quality and the cultural narrative they carry. Owning a piece from this tradition is a way to celebrate a legacy of craftsmanship that has survived and evolved through generations, bringing a piece of profound history into your own living space.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill from the artisans involved. With a knot density of 160,000 knots per m2, the creation of this piece represents hundreds of hours of focused, manual labour. This high density ensures that the intricate floral patterns remain sharp and well-defined, while also contributing to the overall longevity of the pile.

The construction is further defined by its significant weight of 32.2 kg, which speaks to the quality and density of the materials used. The density achieved through this traditional knotting technique creates a robust foundation, ensuring the rug remains stable and resilient even in high-traffic areas of your home.

Every individual knot is placed by hand, a testament to the dedication required to produce a piece of this scale and complexity. This labour-intensive approach is what gives the rug its superior structural integrity, ensuring it remains a premium, lasting investment for years to come.
