KeshanHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Black205 x 310 cm

The Keshan rug tradition originates from the historic city of Kashan in the Middle East, a place long celebrated as a centre of textile excellence. These rugs are renowned for their connection to the classical weaving traditions of the region, where the art of rug making has been refined over many centuries.

The term Keshan often refers to a specific style of construction that emphasises a high knot density and a sturdy foundation. This technical approach results in a pile that is not only dense and luxurious but also incredibly hard-wearing, ensuring that the rug retains its form and colour depth through years of use.

Design-wise, these rugs are famous for their intricate floral compositions. The field typically features a central medallion surrounded by elaborate scrolling vines, palmettes, and floral sprays. The border is usually just as detailed, framing the central display with a harmonious balance that is characteristic of this esteemed weaving lineage.

Collectors value these rugs for their combination of technical skill and cultural narrative. Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a history of artistic dedication, where every motif and colour choice reflects a deep-seated commitment to beauty and legacy.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that involves the careful placement of every individual knot by skilled artisans. With a density of 250,000 knots per m2 over its 6.35 m2 surface, the total knot count reaches approximately 1,587,500 knots.

Such an immense quantity of knots requires hundreds of hours of focused, expert work. This investment of time and human effort is exactly what creates the fine detail in the floral motifs and the superior durability of the pile, justifying its status as a premium, long-term investment for your home.
