Brown / Orange191 x 322 cm

Keshan rugs originate from the historic city of Kashan, located in the Middle East. This region has been a vital hub for textile production for centuries, celebrated for its role in the global trade of fine goods. The city's long-standing tradition of weaving has fostered a unique aesthetic that is recognised for its sophistication and balanced compositions.

The term Keshan refers to a specific design tradition that emphasises formal, symmetrical layouts. These rugs are known for their dense, durable construction, which is achieved through careful hand-knotting techniques. This method ensures that the pile remains upright and vibrant, allowing the intricate motifs to stand out clearly against the field.

Signature elements of this style include highly detailed floral medallions and elaborate scrolling vines, often arranged in a central layout. The borders are typically just as detailed as the centre, providing a frame that ties the entire visual narrative together. This classic approach to pattern-making has remained popular due to its ability to complement various interior settings.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a rich cultural history. These rugs are highly valued for their artistic merit and the skill required to produce them, making them prized possessions for collectors and homeowners alike. They represent a lasting commitment to quality and a respect for the time-honoured craft of weaving.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who have spent significant time ensuring every detail of the floral design is perfectly captured. With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the total knot count reaches nearly 1 million individual knots, a testament to the immense human effort and precision required to create such a refined piece.

The substantial weight of 22.8 kg over the 322 x 191 cm surface area highlights the density of the construction. This high volume of material and the time-intensive knotting process result in a robust, high-quality rug that is built to endure, offering a level of stability and longevity that mass-produced alternatives cannot achieve.
