Brown / Dark greyRunner90 x 305 cm

Kazak rugs are celebrated for their bold, graphic designs and rich colour palettes. Originally woven by nomadic tribes in the Caucasus region, these rugs were prized for their geometric clarity and robust construction. Today, the tradition continues in Afghanistan, where weavers maintain these classic techniques to create rugs that honour their historical roots.

The term 'Kazak' refers to a specific style of village weaving rather than a single location. These rugs are known for their use of high-quality wool, which is often spun by hand to ensure a strong, lustrous finish. This material choice is fundamental to the longevity of the rug, allowing the pile to resist wear while developing a beautiful character over the years.

Visual language is the hallmark of the Kazak tradition. You will often see large, stylised medallions, geometric animals, and repeating motifs framed by intricate, multi-layered borders. The use of vibrant, saturated colours is a nod to natural dyes that were historically used, creating a striking contrast against the field colour of the rug.

Collectors value Kazak rugs for their authenticity and the cultural narrative woven into every knot. Owning one is an investment in human skill and regional heritage. These pieces are not merely floor coverings but are regarded as lasting works of art that connect the modern home to centuries of weaving tradition.

This runner is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires immense skill and patience. Each individual knot is tied by hand, creating a dense and resilient structure that ensures the rug will withstand years of daily use while retaining its shape and beauty.

The weight of 8.2 kg for a rug of this size is a testament to the generous amount of high-quality wool used in its construction. This density not only enhances the feel of the rug but also highlights the labour-intensive nature of its creation, where every detail is carefully considered.

By choosing a hand-knotted piece, you are supporting a tradition of manual craftsmanship that values precision over speed. The time and human effort invested in this runner result in a level of durability and pattern clarity that is only possible through dedicated, artisanal work.
