Kazak FineHand KnottedRug

Brown / Beige285 x 358 cm

Kazak rugs originate from the Caucasus region, a mountainous area known for its vibrant and distinct weaving traditions. While the name historically refers to rugs produced by various tribes in this area, the tradition has evolved significantly over time, with some of the finest contemporary examples now being skilfully crafted in Afghanistan.

The term Kazak is synonymous with a bold, graphic aesthetic that prioritises geometric shapes over floral or curvilinear designs. These rugs are celebrated for their thick, sturdy construction and the use of high-quality Wool, which is traditionally spun by hand to create a robust and lustrous pile.

Signature design elements of the Kazak tradition include large, stylised medallions and geometric motifs such as hooks, diamonds, and stars. The borders are often formal and highly decorative, framing the central field with repeating patterns that pull the entire composition together into a cohesive work of art.

Owning a Kazak rug is about more than just floor decor; it is an investment in a storied craft tradition. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their cultural significance and the impressive skill required to produce them, ensuring that they remain timeless additions to any home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Afghanistan. The process of creating a rug of this size—measuring 358 x 285 cm—is an immense undertaking that requires months of dedicated effort, precision, and focus to ensure the pattern is perfectly executed.

With a total weight of 30.6 kg, this rug reflects the significant amount of Wool material used in its construction. This density is a testament to the artisan's commitment to quality, ensuring a thick, heavy, and durable pile that will stand the test of time.

Every individual knot is placed by hand, a traditional technique that allows for the creation of complex, sharp motifs. This deliberate and time-consuming approach results in a finished piece that is significantly more robust and long-lasting than mass-produced alternatives.
