Kazak FineHand KnottedRug

Brown / Dark red240 x 295 cm

Kazak rugs trace their rich heritage back to the Caucasus region, where nomadic and village weavers created bold, geometric masterpieces inspired by their surrounding landscapes and tribal traditions. Over generations, these iconic design styles migrated and found new homes across Central Asia and Afghanistan, where local artisans embraced the tradition and kept its vibrant aesthetic alive.

The craftsmanship behind these rugs relies on time-honoured techniques passed down through families. Artisans tie each knot by hand using sturdy natural foundations, creating a dense and resilient pile that stands up to daily life while retaining a soft, welcoming feel.

Visually, Kazak rugs are celebrated for their striking geometric motifs, central medallions, and deeply symbolic border patterns. While traditional colour palettes often lean toward warm earthy tones, variations featuring rich blue fields offer a distinctive take on the classic design, highlighting the motifs with striking visual contrast.

Collecting a Kazak rug means inviting a piece of living history into your home. The combination of durable wool, careful hand-knotting, and centuries-old design traditions ensures that these rugs are valued not just as floor coverings, but as lasting heirlooms of human skill and cultural heritage.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of careful labour to bring each traditional design to life. Working knot by knot on a traditional vertical loom, the weaver passes each strand through the foundation with remarkable precision and care.

With a density of 90,000 knots per m2 across a grand 295 x 240 cm surface, this piece contains approximately 637,200 individual knots placed by hand. This painstaking process requires immense patience and expert control, resulting in a robust structure with remarkable pattern clarity and long-lasting strength.

Weighing in at 21.2 kg, the heavy construction reflects the generous amount of natural wool and tight foundation work invested in its creation. This substantial weight ensures the rug lies flat and secure on your floor, bearing witness to the enduring human effort and traditional expertise behind its manufacture.
