Kazak rugs originate from the Caucasus region, a mountainous area with a long and storied history of textile weaving. While the name historically refers to pieces from the Caucasus, today the tradition is expertly maintained by weavers in Afghanistan who carry forward these ancient design languages with remarkable skill and dedication.

The term 'Kazak' is synonymous with a specific, bold aesthetic that prioritises geometric clarity and expressive colour palettes. These rugs are known for their sturdy, durable construction, which has made them favourites for centuries among those who value both visual impact and long-term utility in their home textiles.

Signature design elements of these rugs include large, stylised medallions, often referred to as 'guls' or geometric star motifs, set against a plain or semi-plain field. The borders are typically wide and feature repeating geometric patterns that frame the centre, creating a balanced yet energetic composition that is instantly recognisable to collectors.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a rich cultural heritage. These rugs are highly valued for their artistic boldness and the human effort required to create them, representing a commitment to traditional craft that remains as relevant and appreciated today as it was generations ago.

This rug is carefully hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Afghanistan, a process that requires immense patience and precision. The substantial weight of 12.9 kg is a testament to the high volume of Wool used in its construction, which results in a robust and long-lasting pile that is built to endure daily use.

The creation of such a piece involves months of dedicated effort, with every individual knot placed by hand to ensure the pattern remains crisp and the structure stays firm. This labour-intensive method creates a level of density and quality that simply cannot be replicated by machines, giving the rug its unique character and structural integrity.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
