Kazak rugs originate from the Caucasus region, a mountainous area known for its rich history of nomadic weaving. While the name refers to this historic territory, today the tradition is expertly maintained by Afghan weavers who have preserved these ancient designs and techniques, keeping the spirit of the craft alive through generations of dedicated practice.

The term 'Kazak' is synonymous with bold, geometric motifs and a high-quality, long-staple Wool pile. These rugs are traditionally woven with a sturdy foundation that ensures they lie flat and maintain their structure, a hallmark of the nomadic lifestyle where rugs were essential for both warmth and daily utility.

Signature elements of this tradition include the use of striking medallions, latch-hook motifs, and a vibrant colour palette derived from natural sources. This particular piece showcases these classic features, with the geometric shapes and strong borders serving as a visual language that has been celebrated by collectors for centuries.

Valued for their cultural significance and enduring beauty, these rugs are more than just floor coverings. They are symbols of heritage and human skill, representing a commitment to traditional design that resists the transient nature of modern trends, making them treasured pieces for those who appreciate authentic, long-lasting craftsmanship.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires significant time and focus to ensure every detail is perfectly placed. With 90,000 knots per m2, the construction is exceptionally dense, which results in a sharper pattern definition and a more resilient, long-lasting pile that retains its shape over time.

The creation of this specific piece, measuring 203 x 149 cm, represents many weeks of dedicated labour. The weight of 9.1 kg is a testament to the generous amount of high-quality Wool used in its construction, ensuring a heavy, substantial feel that signifies true quality and expert craftsmanship.

Each knot is secured by hand, creating a robust foundation that is built to withstand the demands of a busy home. This traditional technique not only provides superior durability but also gives the rug its unique character, as the subtle variations inherent in hand-made items reflect the artisan's touch and commitment to their craft.
