Kazak FineHand KnottedRug

Green / Orange100 x 148 cm

Kazak rugs are deeply rooted in the historical weaving traditions of the Caucasus region, though today the finest examples, like this one, are crafted in Afghanistan. Historically, these rugs were produced by nomadic tribes who used bold, geometric designs to reflect their cultural identity and environment.

The term 'Kazak' often refers to a specific style of hand-knotted rug known for its generous pile and vibrant use of colour. These rugs are highly regarded for their durability, a quality achieved through their robust construction and the use of resilient, high-quality wool that stands up well to years of use.

Signature elements of a Kazak design typically include large, stylised medallions and geometric motifs, often surrounded by a wide, decorative border. This specific piece features a striking light blue field, a departure from the traditional deep reds, which highlights the versatility and artistic evolution of these regional designs.

Collecting a Kazak rug is an investment in heritage and human skill. These pieces are valued for their ability to bring a sense of history and warmth into a home, serving as a testament to a craft that has been passed down through generations of weavers.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires patience and precision. By individually tying each knot onto a cotton foundation, the weaver builds a durable and resilient structure that is designed to withstand everyday use while maintaining its form and texture.

The craftsmanship involved in this piece is significant, with a total of approximately 133,200 knots placed by hand. This level of density ensures that the intricate patterns remain sharp and well-defined, while also contributing to the overall weight of 4.4 kg, which signals the high volume of material and the dedication invested in its creation.

Every stage of the process, from the initial preparation of the wool to the final trimming of the pile, is done manually. This human effort is what gives the rug its unique character and structural integrity, making it a premium choice for those who value the time and expertise required to create a lasting textile.
