Kazak ArianaHand KnottedRug

Brown / Dark yellow198 x 314 cm

The Kazak rug tradition is rooted in the mountainous regions of the Caucasus, where weaving styles were developed by nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes. These rugs are celebrated for their bold, artistic interpretations of traditional tribal motifs, which have evolved over centuries to become some of the most sought-after designs in the textile world.

The term Ariana refers to a modern revival of these classic aesthetic principles, often utilising traditional hand-knotting techniques to create rugs that feel both ancient and contemporary. This approach ensures that the depth and texture of the pile remain true to historical standards, providing a level of quality and lustre that mass-produced alternatives cannot match.

Visually, this rug follows the signature design language of the region, featuring organised rows of medallions often reminiscent of tribal symbols. These motifs are framed by decorative borders that anchor the field, providing a balanced and harmonious look. The use of varied colours within these motifs is a classic trait, designed to draw the eye and highlight the complexity of the hand-knotted structure.

Owning a piece from this tradition is about more than just decor; it is about connecting with a long lineage of craft. These rugs are collected for their cultural weight and the undeniable skill required to produce them. By choosing this rug, you are preserving a craft tradition and bringing a piece of heritage into your daily life.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires immense skill and patience. Each knot is placed individually by an artisan, a labour-intensive method that ensures the high density and structural strength required for a premium, long-lasting floor covering.

With 360,000 knots per m2, this rug represents hundreds of hours of dedicated work. This high knot density is essential for achieving the sharp, clear pattern details you see in the design, while also creating a pile that is incredibly dense, resilient, and resistant to wear over time.

The substantial weight of 21.1 kg across its size is a direct result of the dense material usage and the tight, manual knotting process. This weight serves as a tangible indicator of the high-quality construction and the significant human effort invested in every stage of its creation.
