Brown / Black172 x 247 cm

Kazak rugs originate from the Caucasus region, historically serving as a bridge between the nomadic weaving traditions of Central Asia and the more formal styles of the Middle East. While the original Kazak rugs were woven by tribal groups, the style has evolved significantly, with modern iterations like the Ariana being produced in Afghanistan to capture that same rustic, soulful aesthetic.

The term 'Kazak' refers to a specific bold, geometric design language rather than a single village. These rugs are celebrated for their use of large-scale medallions, rectilinear forms, and a vibrant, earthy palette. The Ariana style specifically focuses on using high-quality Wool that is often washed to achieve a slightly muted, antique-inspired lustre, bridging the gap between historical charm and contemporary interior needs.

Signature elements of this tradition include the prominent use of octagonal guls and star motifs, often enclosed by complex, multi-layered borders. The patterns are not merely decorative but are deeply rooted in the cultural identity of the weavers, with each motif telling a story or providing protection. The grey field of this specific piece is a sophisticated modern interpretation that highlights the crispness of these ancient geometric forms.

Owning a Kazak Ariana is an invitation to bring a piece of living history into your home. These rugs are highly valued by collectors not just for their aesthetic impact, but for the skill required to translate complex, memory-based patterns into a physical floor covering. By choosing this rug, you are supporting a craft tradition that prioritises human skill and heritage over mass production.

This Kazak Ariana rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Afghanistan, a process that reflects centuries of tradition. Each individual knot is tied by hand, resulting in a robust structure that ensures the rug will remain a cherished part of your home for generations.

With a density of 360,000 knots per m2, this rug represents a significant investment of time and precision. This high knot count is directly responsible for the clarity of the geometric patterns and the luxurious density of the pile, allowing for a level of detail that machine-made alternatives simply cannot achieve.

The combination of a 14.4 kg weight and a 10 mm pile height provides a substantial feel that speaks to the quality of the materials used. The density achieved through this careful hand-knotting process creates a durable surface that is resistant to wear, ensuring that the effort invested by the weaver translates into a functional and long-lasting piece.
