Kashmir pure silkHand KnottedRug

Brown / Beige93 x 151 cm

Kashmir silk rugs originate from the beautiful valley of Kashmir in Northern India, a region with a long-standing reputation for producing some of the finest textile art in the world. This tradition was heavily influenced by Middle Eastern techniques brought to the region centuries ago, which were then adapted to reflect local aesthetic sensibilities and floral motifs.

The term Kashmir silk refers to a specific style of hand-knotted construction that often utilises a fine silk pile. This material choice is pivotal, as silk fibres allow for an incredibly high knot count and a signature sheen that reflects light differently from every angle, giving the rug a dynamic and living quality.

The design language of these rugs is famously inspired by the natural beauty of the Kashmir valley. You will often see intricate floral patterns, vines, and central medallions that are balanced with a sophisticated, ornate border. The use of colour is typically rich and harmonious, designed to draw the eye into the heart of the rug.

Collectors value these rugs not just for their aesthetic appeal, but for the immense skill required to produce them. Owning a Kashmir silk rug is a testament to an appreciation for cultural heritage and the enduring value of human artistry, making it a significant addition to any collection of fine home furnishings.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans in India, a process that reflects hundreds of hours of focused effort. With a density of 640,000 knots per m2, the level of detail achieved in the floral patterns is exceptional, resulting in a firm, durable structure that maintains its shape and beauty over time.

The high knot density is a hallmark of premium craft, providing a refined texture that enhances the clarity of the design and the richness of the silk. This dense arrangement of fibres ensures that the rug is not only a visual delight but also a robust investment that stands up to daily life.

Given the dimensions of 151 x 93 cm and the substantial 4.2 kg weight, the artisan investment here is significant. Every individual knot contributes to the overall stability and longevity of the piece, showcasing a level of precision that simply cannot be achieved through any other method.
