This exceptional hand-knotted rug from India is a true singular work of art. Because it is one of a kind, you are acquiring a piece that exists nowhere else in the world, ensuring that your home reflects a unique sense of style that can never be replicated.

Woven from high-quality silk, the pile offers a soft, shimmering texture that catches the light beautifully, adding depth and elegance to your room. Its tactile nature provides a gentle warmth underfoot, making it a perfect choice for creating a cosy and inviting atmosphere in smaller living spaces.

The intricate craftsmanship ensures a dense and durable pile that maintains its beauty over time. The precision of the design allows for remarkably sharp detail, which elevates the overall aesthetic and ensures the rug remains a cherished part of your home decor for many years.

Beyond its visual appeal, this silk rug serves as a functional piece of art that absorbs sound and grounds your furniture. Its compact size makes it an ideal choice for accenting a reading nook or a bedside, providing a luxurious touch that enhances the comfort of your daily environment.

Kashmir silk rugs represent a centuries-old tradition of textile excellence rooted in the beautiful valley of Kashmir, India. Influenced by the artistic heritage of the Middle East, these rugs evolved into a distinct style that blends local floral motifs with refined knotting techniques, creating a legacy of luxury that has been prized by collectors for generations.

The term 'Kashmir' refers not only to the origin but to a specific approach to silk weaving that prioritizes high knot density. This density is the key to the rug's longevity and its ability to hold intricate, fine-lined patterns. By using a dense pile, the weavers ensure that the silk retains its luster and resilience, making it a functional investment rather than just a decorative one.

The visual language of these rugs is defined by rich, flowing designs often inspired by nature. You will frequently find 'Tree of Life' motifs, delicate floral sprays, and intricate boteh patterns arranged with precision. This particular piece showcases a panelled design, which is a sophisticated variation that highlights the artisan's ability to balance different elements within a single, cohesive frame.

Owning a Kashmir silk rug is an act of preserving a sophisticated craft. These pieces are valued for their cultural weight and the undeniable skill required to produce them. As a collector, you are not just selecting a floor covering; you are choosing a piece of history that embodies the patience and dedication of a long-standing weaving tradition.

This rug is created through a demanding hand-knotted process that requires immense skill and patience from the artisan. With a density of 490,000 knots per m2, the creation of this piece involves hundreds of thousands of individual, deliberate movements, showcasing a level of precision that simply cannot be achieved by machines.

Considering the size and the density of the knots, an artisan spends many weeks of focused work to complete this rug. This significant investment of time and human effort is reflected in the sharpness of the pattern and the remarkable density of the silk pile, which ensures the piece is both robust and exceptionally soft.

The foundation, composed of a cotton base, provides the essential stability and structure for the intricate silk knotting. This combination of materials and manual technique results in a high-quality, long-lasting item where every detail is carefully accounted for by the weaver's hands.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.

Silk

Silk is an exclusive natural fibre that provides a soft and shiny feeling to rugs. The material can also be used to enhance details in wool rugs and in some, silk can make up the entire pile and sometimes even the warp. Elegant rugs with rich details can only be made with silk because other fibres are too thick for this purpose. Silk is a durable and hard-wearing fibre that lasts a long time and becomes more beautiful over time. Due to its sensitivity to liquids, it is advisable to refrain from positioning the rug in areas where there is a high likelihood of moisture or potential spills.
