Kashmar rugs originate from the historic city of Kashmar in the Khorasan province of the Middle East. This region has a long-standing reputation for producing some of the most sophisticated and visually complex carpets, often drawing inspiration from the rich architectural and artistic heritage of the area.

The term 'Kashmar' refers to the specific weaving tradition that favours high-detail pictorial and floral designs, often incorporating classical motifs that have been refined over centuries. These rugs are highly valued for their ability to blend traditional weaving knowledge with a distinct regional aesthetic that sets them apart from other styles.

Signature design elements of a Kashmar often include a prominent central medallion surrounded by dense, flowing floral patterns and intricate vine scrolls. The borders are usually wide and highly decorative, framing the field with repeating motifs that mirror the sophistication of the centre, creating a balanced and harmonious visual experience.

Collectors value Kashmar rugs for their technical excellence and the cultural narrative woven into their designs. Owning such a piece is more than just a decorative choice; it is an investment in a craft tradition that celebrates patience, skill, and an enduring connection to the artistic legacy of the Middle East.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive technique that involves tying individual knots onto a foundation. This process requires immense focus and patience, with a rug of this significant size and density representing hundreds of hours of dedicated work by skilled artisans.

The 160,000 knots per m2 density is a testament to the precision of its creation. By packing the knots so tightly, the weavers achieve a level of detail and structural integrity that machines simply cannot emulate. This high knot count creates a dense, luxurious pile that is not only visually stunning but also incredibly durable.

Weighing 48 kg, the rug’s weight is a direct reflection of the generous amount of high-quality materials used in its construction. This substantial heft ensures the rug lies flat and remains stable on your floor, serving as physical evidence of the premium materials and the extensive human effort invested in every square centimetre of the piece.
