KashmarHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown293 x 383 cm

Kashmar rugs originate from the city of Kashmar in the Middle East, a region with a storied tradition of textile craftsmanship. These rugs are renowned for their distinctive and often large-scale designs, which frequently draw inspiration from historical architectural motifs and classical garden scenes.

The construction of a Kashmar rug typically involves a robust foundation that supports a dense pile. This structural integrity is essential for achieving the elaborate curvilinear patterns that define the style. The use of high-quality wool allows for a vibrant colour saturation that remains rich and deep over many years of use.

Visually, these rugs are celebrated for their elaborate central medallions and borders filled with intricate floral sprays, vines, and leaf patterns. Often, the design incorporates a sub-pattern where the entire field is covered in a harmonious, flowing arrangement of shapes that leads the eye toward the centre.

Owning a Kashmar rug is an investment in a living tradition. These pieces are highly sought after by collectors who value the blend of technical skill and artistic vision they represent. To bring a Kashmar rug into your home is to connect with a legacy of Middle Eastern artistry that has been perfected over generations.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate immense time and precision to every detail. By securing each strand of wool individually, the weavers create a dense and resilient pile that is far more durable and complex than machine-made alternatives.

The 160,000 knots per m2 represent a significant investment of labour, resulting in a total count of approximately 18 million individual knots for this specific piece. This high level of density allows for such fine pattern definition and a thick, luxurious feel that stands the test of time.

The substantial weight of 56.1 kg is a direct result of the high-quality materials and the meticulous density of the hand-knotted construction. Every gram of that weight translates to more material and more effort, ensuring a firm, stable rug that stays beautifully in place on your floor.
