Joshaghan rugs originate from the village of Joshaghan-e-Ghali, located in the central region of the Middle East. This area has long been celebrated for its distinctive weaving traditions, which prioritise a harmonious balance between geometric precision and floral artistry. The village itself sits in a historically significant area where weaving has been a cornerstone of local life for generations.

The term Joshaghan refers to a specific style of construction that emphasises a consistent, durable foundation. These rugs are known for their ability to withstand the test of time, thanks to the quality of the Wool and the tight, deliberate knotting techniques used by weavers. This approach ensures that the rugs are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional, serving as reliable floor coverings in traditional homes.

Visually, these rugs are famous for their medallion-based layouts, often featuring a central diamond or hexagonal motif surrounded by stylised garden patterns. The borders are typically formal and structured, framing the field with repeating geometric or floral motifs. This particular piece showcases the classic red and blue palette that makes the Joshaghan style so recognisable and sought after by collectors.

Collecting a Joshaghan rug is an investment in cultural heritage. Because they are crafted using traditional methods, each rug carries the signature of its maker and the collective knowledge of its region. Owning one is a way to connect with a long-standing tradition of craft and to bring a piece of authentic, timeless art into your own home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense skill and dedication. The artisan carefully ties each individual knot by hand, ensuring the structural integrity and durability of the finished piece. This traditional method results in a dense, uniform pile that is significantly more robust than machine-made alternatives.

With a weight of 11.6 kg, the rug demonstrates its substantial construction and high material density. This weight is a direct result of the hours of focused labour invested in its creation, ensuring that the rug stays firmly in place and maintains its shape for years to come. The precision involved in hand-knotting ensures that the intricate geometric patterns remain sharp and clear.

The combination of the Wool pile and the sturdy foundation creates a finished product that is as reliable as it is beautiful. By choosing a hand-knotted rug, you are supporting a craft that has been refined over centuries, with every inch of the 207 x 160 cm surface reflecting the expertise of the individuals who brought it to life.
