Isfahan rugs originate from the historic city of Isfahan in the Middle East, a region long celebrated as a centre of artistic excellence and refined craftsmanship. Historically, this city has been a hub for the finest weaving workshops, where designs were often inspired by the architectural motifs of local mosques and the lush, stylised gardens depicted in classical poetry.

The term Isfahan refers to a tradition of high-density weaving that prioritises fluidity and grace. These rugs are known for their sophisticated use of space and proportion. The technical precision involved in their creation is what allows for such delicate, flowing floral patterns to be translated from paper to wool with such high fidelity, resulting in a finished product that looks almost like a painting.

The visual language of an Isfahan rug is characterised by an elegant central medallion surrounded by a complex field of scrolling vines, palmettes, and floral sprays. The borders are typically as detailed as the centre, often featuring a harmonious balance of colours that frame the design beautifully. This specific rug captures that classic aesthetic, using a rich palette to highlight the depth of the floral work.

Owning an Isfahan rug is a mark of appreciation for a tradition that has been perfected over centuries. These pieces are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts who value the skill, heritage, and the cultural narrative woven into every thread. By bringing this rug into your home, you are continuing a legacy of beauty that remains as relevant and impressive today as it was in the past.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to bring the design to life. The process begins with the careful preparation of the foundation, followed by the manual insertion of each individual knot. This labour-intensive method is what allows for the extraordinary pattern clarity and the dense, resilient pile that defines this piece.

With a knot density of 810,000 knots per m2, the rug is an example of supreme craftsmanship. This high density is essential for achieving the fine, fluid lines of the floral motifs and ensures the rug remains sturdy and long-lasting under normal use. It reflects hundreds of hours of human skill, where every single knot contributes to the structural integrity and the luxurious finish of the surface.

The weight of 5.9 kg across its 178 x 110 cm dimensions provides a substantial feel, indicating a high concentration of premium materials and a tight, secure weave. This density not only enhances the visual definition of the pattern but also speaks to the patience and precision required to create a rug of this calibre, ensuring that the final result is as durable as it is beautiful.
