Hamadan rugs originate from one of the oldest cities in the Middle East, a historic hub located in the mountainous region of the western Middle East. For centuries, this area has been a centre for rug weaving, with local traditions evolving to incorporate diverse tribal and village influences. The resulting style is celebrated for its sturdy construction and varied, expressive designs.

The term Hamadan often refers to a broad category of village rugs that share a common heritage rather than a single, rigid design. These rugs are known for their diversity, as each weaver often incorporates local variations and personal interpretations of traditional patterns, making every piece a unique reflection of its regional roots.

Signature motifs often include repeating geometric patterns or stylized floral arrangements, frequently centred around a medallion. The borders are typically well-defined, framing the intricate field with classic, repeating designs that provide balance and structure to the overall composition of the rug.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in functional art. These pieces are valued for their enduring quality and the human story behind every knot. Owning a piece from this historic region connects your modern home to a long lineage of craft, ensuring that your space is filled with authentic character and heritage.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense skill and patience. By tying individual knots to the foundation, the artisans ensure a dense, durable structure that can withstand the demands of daily life for years to come.

Given the substantial weight of 11.5 kg for this 405 x 81 cm runner, it is clear that a significant amount of wool has been used in its creation. This density is a testament to the quality and the labour-intensive nature of the weaving process, resulting in a robust, high-quality piece that stands apart from mass-produced alternatives.
