HamadanHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Black115 x 155 cm

Hamadan rugs hail from one of the oldest cities in the Middle East, a region with a deep-rooted history of textile production. Historically, this area has served as a central hub for the trade and creation of rugs, drawing on diverse influences from surrounding nomadic and village cultures.

The terminology surrounding these rugs often reflects the diverse weaving styles found across the vast Hamadan province. Because the region encompasses hundreds of villages, each with its own preferred techniques and Wool preparation methods, these rugs display a remarkable range of textures and structural nuances that define their long-lasting quality.

Visually, these rugs are often defined by their geometric interpretations of floral motifs and the iconic central medallion. While red and blue tones are traditional, the specific colour palette found in this piece showcases the creative freedom often exercised by the weavers, who blend traditional patterns with their own artistic vision.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural continuity. These pieces are valued for their ability to bridge the gap between ancient craft and modern living, offering a tangible connection to the skill and history of the artisans who have perfected this art form over generations.

This rug is carefully hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused work to bring each piece to life. This traditional method allows for a high level of control over every single knot, resulting in a pile that is exceptionally dense and durable compared to machine-made alternatives.

The sheer amount of human effort invested in this 155 x 115 cm piece is reflected in its substantial 6.2 kg weight. This density is a testament to the quality of the materials and the intensity of the labour required to build such a resilient foundation, ensuring the rug lies flat and retains its shape over time.

Every individual knot is placed by hand, a process that requires immense patience and technical precision. This dedication to craft is what gives the rug its long-term integrity, creating a finished product that is not just a floor covering, but a lasting piece of heritage.
