Hamadan rugs originate from one of the oldest cities in the Middle East, a region with a deep-rooted history of textile production. Historically, Hamadan served as a vital trading hub, allowing the weaving styles of surrounding villages and nomadic tribes to converge and influence one another, resulting in a diverse and highly adaptable design language.

The term Hamadan refers to a broad category of rugs produced in this area, typically characterised by their sturdy construction and use of high-quality Wool. These rugs are known for their resilience and ability to age gracefully, often developing a beautiful patina that enhances their visual depth as the years pass.

Design-wise, these rugs often feature bold geometric patterns, with the central medallion being a signature motif. The borders are frequently decorated with stylised floral elements or geometric arrangements that frame the central field. This specific piece showcases these traditional elements, using a striking balance of colour to highlight the complexity of the central design.

Collectors and enthusiasts value Hamadan rugs for their authenticity and the tangible connection they provide to Middle Eastern heritage. Owning one is an investment in a tradition that prizes skill and longevity, ensuring that the rug remains a cherished part of your home for years to come.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a labour-intensive process that requires immense focus and precision. The construction involves tying thousands of individual knots to create a dense, durable pile that is built to last for generations.

Given the total surface area of this piece, the creation of such a rug represents hundreds of hours of dedicated work. This human effort is what gives the rug its superior structural integrity and the clarity of its intricate design, ensuring a level of quality that automated production cannot replicate.

The weight of 9.8 kg for this size speaks to the density of the wool and the robustness of the foundation. This significant material investment is a hallmark of high-quality craft, resulting in a floor covering that is both heavy enough to lie flat securely and dense enough to withstand the wear of a busy household.
