Gabbeh - A Warm Embrace for Your Home

Discover the unique charm of this hand-knotted Shabargan rug, a one-of-a-kind piece that brings rich, earthy textures and a sense of calm to any space.
Bring an authentic touch of warmth to your home with this exceptional Shabargan rug. Known for their thick, luxurious pile, these rugs offer a wonderful tactile experience, providing a soft and cushioned feel underfoot that naturally absorbs sound and adds a layer of comfort to your living area.
This specific piece features a striking interplay of deep, saturated tones that create a grounded and inviting atmosphere. Because it is a truly one-of-a-kind creation, the subtle variations in its design and colour distribution ensure that no two rugs are ever identical. Owning this rug means possessing a singular work of art that will never be replicated.
The quality of the wool used in this piece is immediately apparent in its rich texture and inherent durability. Designed to withstand daily use while maintaining its appearance, this rug is an investment in both style and lasting comfort for your home.
Originating from a region with a deep-rooted tradition of rug making, this piece carries a sense of history and human connection. Whether placed in a reading nook or as a focal point in a smaller room, its presence enhances the character of your interior with a timeless and earthy aesthetic.
The Shabargan category belongs to the broader, storied tradition of Gabbeh rugs, which have long been crafted by nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes in the Middle East. These rugs were originally created for personal use, serving as practical, comfortable bedding and floor coverings for life on the move, rather than for commercial trade.
The term Gabbeh essentially translates to raw or natural, reflecting the unrefined and authentic spirit of these pieces. Unlike formal rugs that adhere to rigid geometric patterns, these pieces often feature open fields and simplified, spontaneous motifs that allow the weaver to express their own creativity and connection to their surroundings.
Design elements in these rugs are often inspired by the natural landscape, with colours derived from local plant dyes. The signature look often includes bold, block-like patterns or minimalist compositions that highlight the quality of the wool. Even in more contemporary interpretations like this one, the focus remains on the interplay of colour and the raw texture of the material.
Collecting these rugs is an appreciation of a living tradition that values individual expression and communal skill. Each rug serves as a historical document of the weaver's environment and personal narrative, making them highly prized by those who value authentic heritage and the human story behind their home decor.
This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time and precision to every detail. By securing each knot individually, the makers ensure a dense and resilient pile that is built to last for generations, reflecting a level of craft that simply cannot be achieved through mechanical production.
With a total weight of 2.9 kg for this compact size, the rug demonstrates a density and material richness that speaks to the effort invested in its construction. This substantial weight is a direct result of the high-quality materials and the intensive manual labour required to bring such a dense, durable design to life.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
