Experience the deep, tactile comfort of this hand-knotted Gabbeh rug. With a generous 25 mm pile, it provides a soft, cushioning surface underfoot that adds warmth and sound-dampening qualities to your home, making it a perfect choice for living rooms or bedrooms where comfort is a priority.

The rug is crafted from high-quality wool, known for its natural resilience and ability to retain its appearance over time. This material choice ensures that the rug remains a durable, lasting part of your home, capable of handling daily life while maintaining its soft, inviting texture.

Because each piece is one of a kind, you are acquiring a truly singular item. The subtle variations in the golden tones and the organic, hand-crafted finish mean that this exact rug exists nowhere else in the world and will never be replicated, offering you a unique floor covering that reflects genuine artistry.

Originating from the Middle Eastern tradition of nomadic weaving, this piece brings a sense of authenticity to your interior. Its understated design allows the natural beauty of the wool to take centre stage, creating a versatile foundation that works beautifully in both modern and traditional settings.

Gabbeh rugs have a long and storied history within the nomadic tribes of the Middle East. Traditionally woven by women for domestic use rather than for trade, these rugs were designed to provide warmth and comfort in the harsh environments of the mountains and deserts, which is why they are characterised by their thick, plush piles.

The term Gabbeh itself refers to a rug that is 'natural' or 'raw' in its construction. Unlike more formal urban rugs that follow rigid, pre-planned patterns, these pieces are often created with a focus on simplicity and the weaver's personal expression. This results in a cleaner, more minimalist aesthetic that highlights the beauty of the raw materials.

Design-wise, Gabbeh rugs are celebrated for their open fields and use of natural dyes. While the colours may be bold, they are typically derived from natural sources, such as roots and plants, giving them a soft and harmonious quality. The absence of complex, busy motifs allows the focus to remain on the purity of colour and the texture of the wool.

Collecting a Gabbeh is an act of preserving a heritage of independence and creativity. Because they were not intended for the commercial market, each rug is an honest reflection of the weaver's life and environment. Owning one means bringing a piece of this rich cultural tradition into your home, valued for its authenticity and the skill required to produce such a substantial, lasting textile.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill from the artisan. By carefully tying each individual knot by hand, the maker ensures a dense and robust pile that is significantly more durable than machine-made alternatives.

The substantial weight of 31.3 kg for a piece of this size is a direct reflection of the high-quality wool used and the density of the construction. This weight signifies a high material investment and a labour-intensive process, resulting in a rug that feels solid and premium to the touch.

The complexity of hand-knotting means that the creation of this piece is a time-consuming endeavour, taking many months to complete. This dedicated effort is what gives the rug its lasting quality and depth, ensuring that the finished product is not just a floor covering, but a durable piece of functional art.
