GabbehHand KnottedRug

Orange / Green171 x 238 cm

Gabbeh rugs traditionally originate from the nomadic tribes of the Zagros Mountains, known for their thick pile and expressive, minimalist designs. Over time, these weaving traditions have inspired artisans in other regions, including Pakistan, where weavers have adapted the style to create contemporary interpretations.

The term Gabbeh refers to a rug with a thick, plush pile and a raw, natural character. Unlike formal city rugs, Gabbeh designs are celebrated for their spontaneous and abstract qualities, focusing on texture and comfort rather than rigid symmetry.

This particular piece features a structured grid of small, multicoloured squares on a beige backdrop. This checkerboard pattern is a modern take on classic tribal motifs, combining earthy tones with vibrant accents to create a balanced, artistic surface.

Owning a hand-knotted Gabbeh is an appreciation of rustic charm and honest craftsmanship. Each piece tells a story of cultural exchange and individual creativity, making it a cherished addition to any thoughtful interior.

Every single detail of this rug is crafted by hand, showcasing the patience and skill of traditional artisans who keep this ancient weaving method alive.

Weighing 13.8 kg for its 238 x 171 cm size, the rug has a substantial and dense construction, reflecting the generous amount of wool used and the intensive labour required to create such a durable piece.
