Gabbeh - A Warm and Rustic Foundation for Your Home

Bring a sense of natural warmth to your living space with this Gabbeh rug. Hand-knotted and truly one of a kind, its rich, earthy tones and soft, deep pile create a grounded atmosphere in any room.

This Gabbeh rug offers a deeply tactile experience that transforms the comfort of your home. With a generous 23 mm pile, it provides a soft, cushioning surface underfoot that is perfect for living rooms or bedrooms where comfort is a priority.

The rug is crafted from high-quality wool, which is naturally durable and insulating. This material choice ensures that the rug remains a reliable, long-lasting feature of your interior, providing both warmth and excellent sound absorption for a quieter, more peaceful environment.

As a one-of-a-kind piece, this rug carries a unique character that cannot be replicated. Its organic, striped design is the result of a creative approach that prioritises individual expression over uniform production, ensuring that owning this rug means possessing something genuinely special.

The rich, red hues are characteristic of the traditional dyeing techniques used in its origin region. Because each piece is individual, you can be certain that this exact rug will never be made again, making it a thoughtful choice for those who value authentic craft and lasting quality.

Gabbeh rugs trace their origins to the nomadic tribes of the Middle East, where they were traditionally woven for personal use rather than for trade. Unlike formal, city-made rugs, these pieces were designed to provide warmth and comfort for tribal families, often serving as bedding or floor coverings in harsh mountain climates.

The term Gabbeh refers to a style that is intentionally raw and minimalist, often featuring bold, simple designs that reflect the weaver's natural surroundings. This tradition emphasises a freedom of expression that allows for the spontaneous use of colour and geometry, making each rug a reflection of the weaver's personal narrative.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their thick, plush piles and their reliance on natural, hand-spun wool. While they have evolved over time to suit modern homes, they retain the iconic, unrefined aesthetic that has made them highly sought after by collectors who appreciate the beauty of simplicity and the rugged charm of tribal art.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage and long-standing craft. These rugs are valued not only for their durability but for the soulful, human connection they bring into a space, representing a bridge between ancient nomadic life and contemporary interior design.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate weeks of focused effort to its creation. The process involves individual hand-tied knots, a method that ensures the pile is exceptionally dense and secure, providing the rug with the strength to withstand daily life while maintaining its plush appearance.

With a weight of 15.7 kg, the rug demonstrates the significant amount of wool used in its construction. This density is a direct result of the labour-intensive hand-knotting process, which requires precision and patience to achieve a consistent, high-quality finish across the entire surface.

The time and skill invested in every square centimetre of this rug are evident in its substantial feel and construction. By choosing a hand-knotted piece, you are supporting a tradition of craftsmanship where human effort is the primary tool, resulting in a product that stands apart from mass-produced alternatives.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
